SNAP Ultimate controller/brain,
analog/digital/serial, for ioProject systems
The SNAP Ultimate controller/brain is a programmable I/O and
communications processor. It can be used as a rack-mounted controller or as
an I/O unit in a larger control system based on a more powerful Opto 22
controller, such as the SNAP-PAC-S1. Used as a
rack-mounted controller, the SNAP-UP1-ADS is programmed using the ioProject
Basic software suite, which is included in the purchase price.

NOTE: For new development, we recommend the
SNAP-PAC-R1 on-the-rack controller instead. This new controller has the
same features as SNAP Ultimate I/O but is more powerful and less expensive.
The SNAP-PAC-R1 uses a SNAP M-series rack. To compare features, see both the
SNAP Controller
Comparison Chart and the SNAP Ethernet Brains and On-the-Rack
Controllers Comparison Chart.

SNAP Ultimate controller/brain, digital only,
for ioProject systems
The SNAP-UP1-D64 controller/brain is a programmable I/O and
communications processor. It can be used as a rack-mounted controller or as
an I/O unit in a larger control system based on a more powerful Opto 22
controller, such as the SNAP-PAC-S1. Used as a rack-mounted controller, the
SNAP-UP1-ADS is programmed using the ioProject Basic software suite, which
is included in the purchase price. As an I/O processor, the brain has simple
digital capability only. It handles 4-channel SNAP digital modules only and
is not compatible with 32-channel digital I/O.

NOTE: For new development, we recommend the
SNAP-PAC-R2 on-the-rack controller instead. This new controller has the
same simple digital capability as the SNAP-UP1-D64 but can also handle
32-channel digital, analog, and serial modules. It is also more powerful and
less expensive. The SNAP-PAC-R2 requires a SNAP M-series rack. To compare
features, see both the SNAP Controller
Comparison Chart and
the SNAP Ethernet Brains and On-the-Rack Controllers

Chart.

SNAP Ultimate controller/brain, analog/simple
digital/serial, for ioProject systems
The SNAP-UP1-M64 controller/brain is a
programmable I/O and communications processor. It can be used as a
rack-mounted controller or as an I/O unit in a larger control system based
on a more powerful Opto 22 controller, such as the SNAP-PAC-S1.

SNAP PAC R-series Programmable Automation
Controller - On-the-rack - Analog, full digital, serial
The SNAP-PAC-R1and SNAP-PAC-R2 programmable
automation controller provides control, communication, and I/O processing in
a compact, rack-mounted package. Used with the included ioProject Basic
software suite (or ioProject Professional, purchased separately), the
Ethernet-based SNAP-PAC-R1 can handle almost all your industrial control,
remote monitoring, and data aquisition needs.
System Architecture
This intelligent, flexible PAC can be used in several ways. The SNAP-PAC-R1
can provide complete cell control on its own rack with I/O modules. It can
also control other SNAP Ethernet I/O units at the same time for a larger
system. Or the R1 can be used in a more extensive distributed control system
as an I/O unit controlled by a SNAP PAC S-series standalone controller.
Networking
Two independent, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network interfaces are included on
each SNAP-PAC-R1. These interfaces have separate IP addresses and can be
used to segment the control network from the company network or to provide
Ethernet link redundancy in case of link failure or maintenance. In
addition, the controller has an RS-232 serial port with hardware
handshaking, which can be used for PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol)
communication over a modem or for direct connection to serial devices.
Programming and Protocols
The SNAP-PAC-R1 is programmed using the included ioControl, a
flowchart-based tool for developing control applications, or strategies. You
create and debug the strategy on your computer and then download it to the
R1, where it runs independently. The controller has 16 MB of RAM and can run
up to 16 ioControl flowcharts at once (many more can be included in the
strategy). You can build full-featured operator interfaces (HMIs) using the
included ioDisplay, which taps the same tagname database you've already
developed in ioControl.
In addition to control, the SNAP-PAC-R1 provides communication. Because it
is based on the Internet Protocol (IP), the SNAP-PAC-R1 can communicate
simultaneously using several different protocols, including TCP/IP, PPP,
Modbus/TCP, SNMP for network management, SMTP for emailing, and OptoMMP, the
open memory-mapped protocol used by all Opto 22 Ethernet-based devices.
I/O Processing
The controller mounts on a standard M-series mounting rack with up to 4, 8,
12, or 16 digital, analog, and serial I/O modules. Choose the modules needed
for your application.
Analog features include thermocouple linearization, minimum/maximum values,
offset and gain calibration, scaling, ramping, TPO, output clamping, filter
weight, and watchdog timer. The SNAP-PAC-R1 also offers up to 32 PID loops.
Digital features include latching, high-speed counting (up to 20 kHz
depending on the module), quadrature counting, pulse generation and
measurement, and watchdog timer. NOTE: SNAP standard digital modules can be
used in the first eight rack slots only. SNAP high-density digital modules
can be used in any slot; digital features for these points are more limited.
If you don't need full digital features and would like to use standard SNAP
modules in all rack slots, see the SNAP-PAC-R2. To compare features on the
R1 and the R2, see the SNAP Ethernet Brains and On-the-Rack Controllers

The SNAP PAC Learning Center is a fully
functional, complete package of Opto 22 hardware and software that provides
everything you need to learn about Opto 22’s SNAP Ethernet-based systems.
The Learning Center includes ioProject Basic software, a SNAP-PAC-R1
rack-mounted controller, SNAP I/O modules and mounting rack, and a load
panel with digital and analog sensors and actuators (switches, LEDs, a
temperature probe, a meter, and so on).
The included step-by-step tutorial guides you through the hardware assembly
and software installation and gives you hands-on programming experience with
the ioProject software. You will configure I/O points, read and write to
those points, create several flowcharts as part of a control strategy, and
build a graphical user interface.
Because the SNAP PAC Learning Center consists of the same field-proven, real
hardware and software used by Opto 22 customers all over the world, you'll
be able to apply not only the knowledge you've learned, but also the actual
Learning Center hardware and software in your next automation project.

SNAP Ethernet compact industrial controller
for ioProject systems
The SNAP-LCE is a stand-alone,
small-footprint, Ethernet industrial controller designed for use with SNAP
Ethernet I/O units and the ioProject software suite. The SNAP-LCE provides
real-time control and is used primarily in industrial control applications.
It is programmed with the included ioControl, Opto 22's popular
flowchart-based control programming software.

For new applications, also look at the newer standalone SNAP-PAC-S1
and the rack-mounted SNAP-PAC-R1 controllers. SNAP PACs also run ioProject
software but provide additional power and network connections. Compare

SNAP PAC S-series Programmable Automation
Controller
The SNAP-PAC-S1 programmable automation controller provides powerful,
real-time control and communications to meet your industrial control,
monitoring, and data acquisition needs.
Use the SNAP-PAC-S1 with SNAP Ethernet I/O units and ioProject software to
form a complete control system that includes digital and analog control,
serial string handling, PID loops, and enterprise connectivity.
The controller is compact and industrially hardened. It includes two
independent Ethernet network interfaces with separate IP addresses, which
can be used to segment the control network from the company network or for
redundant Ethernet links.
The SNAP-PAC-S1 also has three serial ports: an RS-232 port with full
hardware handshaking, ideal for PPP communication using a modem; another
RS-232 port for connecting directly to serial devices; and an RS-485 port
for connecting to legacy mistic I/O units..
